About

Experience character and charm by the bucketload in this picturesque period cottage.

Situated in the pretty market town named as one of the twelve best places to go in the UK & Ireland, is Blackbird Cottage. Beaminster, West Dorset, has been lauded by Conde Nest Traveller, for its vibrant independent shops and artistic community. Attractively appointed, surrounded by beautiful countryside and within easy reach of the coast.  It is a real winner in the location stakes. Within walking distance are two award-winning restaurants, Brassica, a family run affair focusing on local produce. And The Ollerod, owned by a former Michelin Star chef. Two pubs, The Greyhound Inn and The Red Lion, plus cafes and takeaways.

Sleeping a maximum of five people in three bedrooms, Blackbird Cottage is a quintessential English cottage. Grade II listed, it dates back to the 18th century, offering both period character and heaps of charm. A special place for precious time together.

Inside

Although built in the 18th century, Blackbird Cottage has been brought up to date while sympathetically retaining its character. Tastefully decorated throughout in a soothing palette of pastels and neutrals it offers a welcoming and homely feel. Downstairs, you can hang those coats and dispense with boots in the porch. The lounge is so cosy, with its characterful low ceiling height, beams and stone fireplace. Simply enjoy one another’s company in front of the roaring wood burning stove. Or pop on the television for a movie night. The separate dining room, with bench seating, is also ideal if you need a quiet spot for working, with fast broadband included. While the kitchen is well equipped for self-catering. You’ll also find the family shower room downstairs, with a large rainfall shower and twin sinks. Upstairs are the three bedrooms. A king size master bedroom, a second bedroom which can either be a king or two singles. With a third smaller, single bedroom.

Outside

The pretty cottage garden at the rear of Blackbird Cottage offers a wonderful haven for the duration of your stay. Well established with vibrant colours and planting to entice wildlife, it’s a stunning place to sit. Dine al fresco at the dining set. Or simply sit with a hot cup of tea on the bench. Should the weather be less than ideal, there is a garden room for shelter. And an outside utility room offers laundry facilities.

Nearby

This being Dorset, there is no shortage of things to see and do. And Blackbird Cottage is well located for exploring all it has to offer with a number of coastal and country walks quite literally on the door step with quaint country pubs to stop along with way. If you are looking to head further afield, Within around half an hour, or far less are some excellent places of interest. Mapperton House, often used as a film location, is just minutes away or how about National Trust properties, Lytes Cary Manor or Montacute House. Grown-ups may be enticed by a day of decadent relaxation at Monart Spa. While children will love The Tank Museum and The Dinosaur Museum. And talking of dinosaurs, the Jurassic Coast is a must visit. Try your hand at fossil hunting, with Lyme Regis and Charmouth, among other places of interest, within an easy drive.
