About

Experience the peace of woodland life in beautiful West Devon.

A break at Honeydown will feel like a step back in time. Live amongst trees more than two centuries old, and embrace living a life (almost) entirely off grid. Five wooden ‘truffle’ domes each have their own parcel of paradise on this gorgeous oak plantation.  With ongoing plans for rewilding and diversification to create a vibrant habitat for wildlife to thrive, it is a much-cared for space. And you’ll have the privilege of living amongst it for the duration of your break. While the truffles are alike in terms of size and structure, they each have their own individual charm. Whether it’s the extra-quiet location of Hush, the pondside location of Heartwood or the rare plant life surrounding Moss. The truffles are ideal for couples but have the added benefit of including fold-up beds for up to two children.

Inside

While Honeydown is committed to being as off-grid as possible, that doesn’t mean you need to rough it! Decor is kept to a minimum, with the honeyed wood tones offering plenty of warmth for the eye. And for those who need actual warmth, the wood burning stove will have the space toasty in no time. Each dome is surprisingly spacious. Coming with a solid wood double bed and upcycled chairs and table. Along with a cool indoor hammock. Battery powered low light lamps add ambience come nightfall. And with no Wi-Fi, screen time is a no-no (although should you need it there is excellent 4G for all main networks). Instead, invest some time with the array of books and games on offer. Snuggle beneath one of the soft blankets and lose yourself in a world of make-believe.

Outside

Honeydown, despite the indoor comfort, is all about embracing the outdoors. Just a few steps from the door of your truffle is the covered outdoor seating and cooking area. Enjoy eating al fresco come rain or shine. Boil the kettle for a well-earned cup of tea on the gas hob. And with the BBQ grill and the Aquaforno, you can switch it up between barbecues and pizzas. Or leave the cooking to someone else and enjoy a snooze beneath the rustling leaves on the hammock. A short walk through the woods takes you to the cabin where you will find private bathrooms and individual kitchen areas. Each truffle has its own allocated private bathroom and food prep area. The bathroom consists of a sink, a proper flushing loo and a hot rainfall shower. While the kitchen area has a sink, worktop space and a fridge. This is the only place at Honeydown that you will have access to electricity, with a power socket for each truffle. Ideal for charging essentials if you’re not quite able to manage a complete digital detox!

Nearby

Honeydown is blessed to have the best of both worlds. Peace and tranquillity by the bucket load on site. But being based in West Devon, there is a hive of attractions surrounding it. Stick close to base and enjoy the ten minute walk into nearby Hatherleigh. For families, The Milky Way and Big Sheep parks are both within a forty minute drive. And for the puzzlers among you, Hidden Valley in Launceston is a brilliant day out! If you’re looking to get sandy toes, Devon is fit to bursting with beautiful beaches. Bude with Summerleaze and Crooklets beaches, plus the stunning sea pool is forty minutes away. Along with many other gems such as Widemouth, Saunton Sands, Sandymouth and Duckpool are all under an hour away. For those who prefer to see their sights on two wheels? You’re spoiled for choice with Granite Way, Ruby Way and Tarka Trail cycle paths to choose from. And if a hike is more your speed, the thirty metre waterfall at National Trust Lydford Gorge is not to be missed. And best of all… the huge expanse of glorious Dartmoor is just a fifteen minute drive away with endless opportunities for walking, horse riding, wild swimming and lots more!
