Entirely unique and impossibly fabulous, is LandyCampers. A multi-award winning family business, recognised by official UK tourism bodies and international outlets alike. Located minutes away from Stansted Airport, but this location is only the beginning. Because once you collect your mini haven on wheels, the open road is your best friend. But what exactly is LandyCampers? Inspired by the adventure of low impact, slower paced travel, Fern and Waffle were born. Waffle is a Landrover Defender 90, perfect for two. While Fern is a Landrover Defender 110, ideal for families or groups of up to six people, including dogs. Both have been lovingly converted and upgraded to create a unique camping experience. Furnished with all the basic camping equipment you could need, as well as some luxury upgrades. From quality bedding (or a sleeping bag if you prefer), and warm blankets, to solar panels, a power station and rechargeable lantern, at LandyCampers, they include off-grid power generation provisions in the form of Ecoflow battery generators and solar panels.
And in addition to all the essentials and extras, the boring necessities offer a great deal. With fully comprehensive insurance, 24/7 breakdown cover and a generous 125 mile per day allowance. Guests can of course go further for a small fee per extra mile.
LandyCampers has an extensive carbon offsetting and tree planting scheme. To date they have exceeded 200 tonnes of CO2 offset, and 4500 trees planted through Ecologi. This means not only is every guest’s trip carbon negative (offset many times over, essentially a trip in a LandyCampers is climate-positive), but also all of their business emissions, and the full lifetime emissions of their vehicles (since manufacture, including the 20-ish years before we owned them!).
Regardless of your choice of LandyCamper, it will be equipped with the very best of what you might need. The upgraded infotainment system allows for easy integration with Apple and Android phones. So not only will you be able to get where you need to be with confidence, you can stream your music or audiobooks with ease. The rear is converted to a handy ‘lounge’ space, complete with clever storage concealing all your camping essentials. This includes a huge range of culinary equipment, such as pots, pans, crockery, a Vango kettle and coffee maker. You also have a fridge as well as cooking essentials, such as oil, salt and pepper. And within just three minutes, you’ll have your rooftop Thule Approach tent ready for bedtime. For colder weather there is thicker and heated sleeping bags and mats, as well as the thermal tent liners to keep you toasty warm. Fern comes equipped with two roof tents, while Waffle has just the one. Folding out at the driver’s side and accessed via a stepladder this is the space camping dreams are made of. A fully enclosed tent on the roof of your Landrover, it features panoramic views through the four windows and skylight. Close the blinds and achieve near blackout as you settle into your comfortable foam mattress for a dreamy night’s sleep.
LandyCamper embraces outdoor living entirely. The 270° awning pulls out to create immediate shelter whether from the heat of the sun or the pouring rain. Set up the ARB 4×4 folding table and CampWerk folding chairs and relax. Rustle up tasty meals on the Kamoto fire pit and barbecue, ably assisted by the Primus Alika double burner. There is also the optional extra of adding on the Thule Outset Towbar Tent. Sleeping up to three people, this is a ground level tent ideal for larger parties, or for those who don’t fancy a clamber into bed. Uniquely included is the tent annexe room to create a space under the rooftents as standard, giving an enclosed area at ground level for added privacy and weather protection.
With a LandyCamper at your disposal, take to the road and discover the Norfolk Coast. Only a couple of hours and eighty-two miles from the LandyCamper HQ in Broxted, Essex. From there, you could head up the east coast. Discover the Lincolnshire seaside resort of Skegness within another couple of hours drive. Enjoy a few rides at Fantasy Island by the beach. And once you’ve savoured all the fish and chips and candy floss you can handle, get back on the road. Head through the Lincolnshire Wolds, slowly exchanging the flat landscape for the rolling hills of Yorkshire. Pop into the historic city of York or enjoy a day exploring the charming town of Helmsley. Lace up those hiking boots for a walk in the Howardian Hills. All before driving across the country to the Lake District. Visit Grasmere, Windermere and Ambleside. The options are limitless, and the only limit is your imagination.
