A glamping experience that offers a cut above the ordinary.
Situated just outside the historic village of St Osyth and a stone’s throw from the Essex coastline is The Partridge Retreat. A collection of beautiful glamping pods, offering not only luxury, but flexibility. Entirely bespoke and hand crafted, three different options are available in small, large and extra-large. Sleeping four, six or seven people, respectively. With a maximum of two adults in the small and large pods, and three adults in the extra-large pod. Furry members of your family are welcome too, making this a fully inclusive luxury retreat. Whether you’re a couple looking for romance, a family in need of quality time, or friends looking to catch up. There is a pod to suit you.
The Partridge Retreat is a brand new, family-run business built by Craig Gibbs, and his wife, Wallis, and run by their close friend Carina Gibson. Steeped in family history, the land has been in the family for years after originally being bought by its namesake Ernie Partridge, a great grandfather of Craig, after his return from the war. Now the family run the glampsite alongside their neighbouring pig farm. In another nod to Ernie, the names of the pods have been carefully considered – they are The Quintessential Quail, Game Drive, Fancy Flight, Grouse Grove and the aptly named XL pod, The Greedy Pheasant. Everything about this little gem is personal and carefully considered to ensure guests feel comfortable and at one with nature.
The pods are versatile in every sense of the word. Brilliantly located, being only an hour and a half from London, there are plenty of options for your break. Use your pod as a base to explore the wider area and vast number of attractions on offer. Or perhaps you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle and want some peace and quiet? Make your stay what you want it to be. Add on extras, such as the hot tub or the many delicious locally sourced food and drink hampers. You could even hire out the whole site for twenty six of your nearest and dearest and enjoy a reunion to remember!
Whichever pod suits your needs best at The Partridge Retreat, you’re assured of a stylish interior. Partitioned to allow for privacy, you enter into the open plan living space. Here you’ll find dining space, a lounge area (with a sofa which doubles as a sofa bed). Plus, each pod at The Partridge Retreat comes furnished with a high spec, fully-equipped kitchen. From the ceramic butler sink to the quartz worktops, although the space is small, it screams quality. With a gas hob, oven and microwave, all your cooking bases are covered. While the Nespresso coffee machine will ensure you’re fully caffeinated for a busy day. All beds are made up with quality hotel linen. And you also have your own self-contained bathroom with luxurious rainfall shower , perfect for washing the day away.
The Partridge Retreat occupies an enviable position, offering calm-inducing panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Enjoy a drink on your private and secure terrace. Or perhaps make use of the Big Green Egg barbecue? Treat yourselves to a locally sourced BBQ or breakfast box and embrace al fresco cooking and dining. When we say locally sourced, we really mean it. All of the pork is procured from the family’s smallholding, located on the other side of this unique spot. Beehives line the forest edge and Partridge honey is available to buy to take home with you or as a special gift. For the ultimate in relaxation, each pod is equipped with a hot tub available to hire, these are heated ready for guests arrival. Put the kids to bed and enjoy a long soak beneath the starry night sky in the complete absence of light pollution.
If you’re not looking to go too far from The Partridge Retreat, why not try a new water sport? Curve Water Sports are based in St Osyth’s at the local lake and offer lots of different options for all ages and abilities. If you’d prefer to stay dry, perhaps go on a hack with LJK Riding, less than a mile away. Families will love Hasty’s Adventure Farm, just a few minutes’ drive away. Or head slightly further afield to the city of Colchester, thirty minutes away. Once the capital of Roman Britain, it is rich with history and cultural importance. Head to Colchester Castle, explore the site of the Roman Circus. Or for animal lovers, head to the outskirts to Colchester Zoo. And lovers of the seaside will be keen to grab their buckets and spade and head to nearby Clacton on Sea, just ten minutes away by car.
