Y Golchdy, which translates as ‘old laundry room’, was once just that. Now a cosy single storey brick-built cottage, it has been lovingly and thoughtfully renovated. It retains some beautiful original features, with additional bespoke elements handcrafted by a local tradesmen from reclaimed timber. Surrounded by lush countryside, it’s a dream location for a couple looking for a quiet and peaceful spot.
With a vintage feel throughout, Y Golchdy feels a little like stepping back in time – but in comfort! There’s even Wi-Fi available, should you need it! With a cosy cabin vibe, this tiny cottage is picture perfect in every way. With its original fireplace and oak beams, it has abundant period charm. The open plan living space is kept toasty warm with the wood burning stove. Ideal for cuddling up on the sofa in front of flickering flames. The hand built kitchen, with its worktop crafted from reclaimed chapel pews, has a country vibe about it. It has all you’ll need for whipping up simple meals. Coming with a stove, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave and a coffee machine. A quick dash outside beneath your covered veranda and you’ll find your stylish shower room. Complete with a power shower, loo, sink and fluffy white bathrobes. And when it comes to bedtime, the cosy cabin bed will be calling to you. Dazzle yourself to sleep with the view of the gorgeous twinkling night sky from the skylight above the bed.
Y Golchdy occupies an elevated position looking across to incredible views of the surrounding hills, to the Black Mountains. Sit out on your covered veranda, sinking into those wicker chairs and marvel at the stunning scenery. There’s even a patio heater to keep you toasty warm whatever the temperature. And with your own hot tub, you’ll reach peak relaxation during your stay. Grab a glass of something chilled and slip into the soothing warm waters and watch as day turns to night. Y Golchdy is in a low light pollution area and therefore you can enjoy the dark skies and wonder the stars above.
And for those who love to discover an area on horseback, equine facilities are available.
With lots of beautiful walks nearby, bringing your hiking boots on a break to Y Golchdy. And as this is Wales, probably your wet gear too! For those who love a bit of history, Y Golchdy is set on a motte and Bailey, there was once a castle called Castell Meurig next to Y Golchdy. It was destroyed in 1209 and is a scheduled monument preserved by Cadw and is definitely worth exploring once you’ve unpacked your bags. Head to the nearby Lyn Y Fan Fach and Fawr, known as Lady of the Lake for a historic walk, this is the site where Camelot allegedly threw his sword.
Y Golchdy is located just a short walk from Llangadog with its choice of three pubs, plus a shop. Or for a wider choice of bars, shops and restaurants, Llandovery and Llandelio are both around five miles away. After being mesmerised by the Black Mountains from your veranda, you’ll want to get a closer look. Forming part of the Brecon Beacons National Park, enjoy hikes or a variety of outdoor activities. Black Mountain Adventure has a whole host of activities for thrill seekers. Whether you’re a water lover or keen to keep on dry land, there’s something for you. For those who love to know about the history of an area. Carreg Cennen Castle and Castell Dinefwr are less than twenty five minutes’ drive away. Or discover the ancient gold mines at National Trust Dolaucothi, around twenty minutes away by car. And you can head underground at the National Showcaves for Wales, around forty five minutes away.
