Filled with charm and character is Gablebach, a picture perfect period cottage which has enjoyed a loving and faithful renovation. Located just outside of the village of Llangadog in Carmarthenshire, West Wales on the edge of Bannau Brycheiniog. Occupying a lovely position facing the village green, it also looks over the River Tywi and out towards the Tywi Valley.
Gablebach has its roots in the 17th century. Once a stable and groom’s loft, it has been brought up to date with modern features, while sacrificing none of its characterful history. Sleeping a maximum of three people in two bedrooms, with a fabulous ensuite and additional shower room.
Stuffed to bursting with vintage treasures and antiques, Gablebach is a lovingly and thoughtfully renovated space. Enter via the very fitting stable door into a small hallway containing a small dining table at the bottom of the stairs. This small area opens out into the lovely lounge. Exactly what comes to mind when thinking of a traditional cottage, this room is just gorgeous. From the plush leather sofa in front of the wood burning stove (and the tv!). To the perfectly positioned chair by the window, ideal for curling up with a good book. Directly opposite the entryway is the kitchen. Handcrafted, this is a quality kitchen, coming with an Aga, along with a modern hob, fridge-freezer, microwave and a dishwasher. Head upstairs to the double master bedroom. This is a sumptuous space, with its en suite bathroom and luxury slipper bath. While just off the master suite is a single bedroom, ideal for a young child or for use as a dressing room. You also have an additional shower room, where even the shower is vintage.
Gablebach is in a beautiful position in the village, and your private patio space will become your favourite outdoor retreat. Grab your favourite drink, a good book or a pack of cards, and settle into the outdoor furniture with the dark skies above to enjoy a bit of star gazing. As Gablebach is dog friendly, watch your pooch enjoy the space, as you take in those far reaching views across the Tywi Valley.
And for those who love to discover an area on horseback, equine facilities are available.
Gablebach is ideal for those who love a countryside setting. Bring along your hiking boots and wet gear and enjoy the many local walks. A short stroll sees you in the village, with its three pubs, plus a shop. Head to the nearby Lyn Y Fan Fach and Fawr, known as Lady of the Lake for a historic walk, this is the site where Camelot allegedly threw his sword. Slightly further afield is Llandeilo or Llandovery (around five miles). Both have a wider choice of pubs, bars, restaurants, coffee shops and galleries to discover. Set off to the Black Mountains which form part of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Or if you love history and heritage, Carreg Cennen Castle and Castell Dinefwr are less than twenty five minutes’ drive away. For something a little different, head to the ancient gold mines at National Trust Dolaucothi (twenty minutes). Or experience the National Showcaves for Wales in less than a forty five minute drive.
Couples, or a small family who love the great outdoors.
