West Lexham Bell Tents
West Lexham Bell Tents
West Lexham is more than a glampsite, it’s a holistic paradise and an inspiration. Created and nurtured by a growing community of international health and ecology practitioners, the goal is optimal living. Here you can retreat and nourish yourself in every possible way…
The 22 acre eco site has a naturally filtered, biomass heated outdoor pool, a biodynamic kitchen garden and ‘garden kitchen’ cafe serving an organic plant based menu. There are plenty of waterside swimming or stone skimming spots around a lake and along the meandering river. West Lexham is family and dog friendly, and has an array of accommodation apart from the Bell Tents, including Tree Houses and Cabins. Less than two and a half hours from central London by train and taxi, or by car, this could become a home from home. This gorgeous hideaways are open from April to September.
Inside
Each of the bell tents sleeps up to four with a double sized bed, a single, and the option of adding a second single mattress. Luxury and comfort is the priority, with supremely smooth linens and cosy throws. These tents are super cool and calm spaces, lit naturally by day and strewn with magical fairy lights after dusk. The Bell Tents are off grid but devices can be charged in the Garden Kitchen. Fluffy towels are provided and the garden washroom, with underfloor heating and nature friendly toiletries, is a short wander from your door. Get sizzling and connect with friends old or new in the communal outdoor kitchen. Ease yourself into the evening with a pop and a clink of glasses…
Outside
West Lexham lives and breathes wellbeing and sustainability. You’ll soon settle into the gentle pace and space around you. Children can paddle and dabble, examining nature at the edge of the lake and playing games on the lawns or in the naturally filtered swimming pool. Float in a rowing boat and reflect as the sky breezes by on the surface of the water. There is a sanctuary garden on the other side of the lake where yogis meet among trickling streams, sculptures and meditative spots in the shade. Lose time in endless dappled running trails through the arboretum of ancient woodland or beside the floating water meadows – a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The organic kitchen garden produces supplies for the cafe, including rare herbs, supplemented by the finest produce from the farms and artisans of Norfolk. A chalk well supplies the drinking water – maintaining the toxin free ethos.
Nearby
West Lexham is a retreat that you never need to leave, but the surrounding area is rich with wonderful days out should you wish to explore. The North Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is half an hour away by car with unspoilt stretches of beach and seafood restaurants looking out to sea. The similarly eco conscious Earl of Leicester runs Holkham Nature Reserve along with his Palladian home Holkham Hall. Head to the dunes and beaches or book a day of salt marsh foraging and spear fishing from a traditional wooden sailing boat with The Coastal Exploration Company. RSPB Snettisham is the place to awe at the sight of the tide rushing over the mudflats forcing tens of thousands of wading birds to the sky – a spectacle at sunset.
